The Scorecard Collection
Scorecards from home and away matches played by Kent representative XI’s at all levels
The collection at Canterbury includes a very large number of scorecards from home and away matches played by Kent representative XI’s at all levels, men and women.
Whilst a number are fully printed in ink and in good condition, we also have some which have their own story to tell – a coffee stain, penciled notes of dismissals and the odd reference to train times for the owners homeward journey!
The earliest card in the collection is from 1846 and details a game at Brighton which was won by a Kent XI that included cricketing giants such as Alfred Mynn, Fuller Pilch and Nicholas Felix. Many other county legends feature on other scorecards in the collection including Frank Woolley whilst making 270 for Kent against Middlesex at Canterbury in 1923 and Tich Freeman taking all ten wickets in an innings against Essex in 1930.
In more recent times, we have scorecards from Kent’s appearances in one day cup finals at Lord’s through the golden era of 1967 to 1978 when a total of 11 trophies were won. The collection also features a number of match day programmes and brochures, some complete with tickets and contemporary newspaper reports.
You will find here some sample images of a very small part of the Kent Cricket collection which is growing rapidly! However, we still have a number of gaps in our collection, particularly for away matches so please let us know if you may have any “spares” which you could help us with.
