The Minute Books and Ledgers Collection
We have an unrivalled collection of Minute Books and Financial Ledgers.
The Kent Cricket collection includes a significant number of documents which report all manner of events, large and small.
Our intention is to catalogue their contents for easy reference but we know that this will take many years to complete (any volunteers are MOST welcome!)
We have an unrivalled collection of Minute Books which report the detailed discussions of a range of Committees. These cover some of the most significant events in the history of Kent Cricket including Minutes from 1859 – pre-dating the existing club – which are signed by the legendary Alfred Mynn. Later minutes are signed by former Chairmen and Presidents including Ivo Bligh (later the Earl of Darnley) and the 4th Baron Harris whose names are well known to any cricket historian. References will be found to the cessation of cricket due to both World Wars, and reactions to the creation of Kerry Packer’s World Series Cricket which threatened to tear county cricket apart.
The Ledgers document a great deal of day-to-day activities – from gate receipts, petty cash and membership subscriptions through to detailed payroll books and ledgers recording how the purchase of the St Lawrence Ground at Canterbury was funded.
