OCTOBER MEETING OF THE KCHT COMMITTEE

A meeting of the Kent Cricket Heritage Trust Committee was held on 7 October 2025 at the Spitfire Ground, chaired by Jo Rice.

Simon Storey, Kent County Cricket Club Chief Executive, reported on Club matters and reminded the committee that he was to step down at the end of the month.  The club would nominate another representative to join the Trust committee.

Progress on the development of the new website which would contain news updates, details of collections and photographs, projects and publications and current and past issues of Inside Edge was noted.

In his report, Ian Phipps, the Heritage Officer outlined items received, and visits and contacts since the last meeting.  A very useful contact on heritage matters had been made with the Amelia Scott Arts and Heritage Centre.  Some of the new items now in the archives included:

  • Doug Wright scrapbook, donated by Doug’s daughter – a large scrapbook with newspaper cuttings covering the 1946/47 Ashes tour;
  • Scorecards – a good selection of home/away cards, largely pre-1970;
  • Steve Marsh Benefit Year – a signed, limited-edition print, based on the 1906 Kent v Lancashire Chevallier-Tayler painting but with 1996 players featured;
  • Scrapbooks and albums from Somerset Cricket Heritage Trust. A collection of well-presented albums covering matches at grounds in Kent with original scorecards, magazine cuttings, and photographs;
  • A large collection of minute books and related material from the 1950s and 1960s relating to Great Chart Women’s CC.

It was further noted that Ground Tours of the Spitfire Ground had proved popular in 2025, particularly with online booking available from the Club Shop website.  Work on the Kent Annual had already commenced and a number of new feature articles had been agreed.

Research on The History of Women’s Cricket in Kent project for the period 1929 to 1999 was progressing well.  The book will be published in early 2026.  Other publications expected to appear in 2026 will include a biography of former Kent cricketer Bob Wilson and a booklet on hat-tricks taken by Kent cricketers.

The committee was pleased to note the Financial Report and, following some recent donations towards specific projects, the finances were in a healthy state.
